Severin Sea Lodge - Kenya Hotels and Accommodations
Situated on the north coast, the Severin Sea Lodge is a large value hotel offering seafront Mombasa accommodation for your soothing beach trip to the Indian Ocean. The Severin lies only a few meters from the white sands of Bamburi Beach. There is a high concentration of beach accommodation in this part of the north coast; thus expect a crowded seashore experience compared to a more secluded beach location would provide like Galu Kinondo beach on the south coast of Mombasa. The hotel has 188 air-conditioned guest rooms located in the main building and dual story rondavels. Rooms are divided into two categories – Karibu Class Standard and Comfort Class which are slightly larger with more amenities.

There are also four varied suites, some that features elegant carved Lamu furnishings. Amenities in the standard rooms include double beds, bathroom and shower. These basic rooms are functional, but do not provide much extra. Standard rooms located in freestanding bungalows have the same amenities as those in the main-building, adding mini bar and balcony or patio. Comfort Class Rooms provide more amenities than the standard option. In addition, guests in Comfort Class enjoy ceiling fans, tea and coffee making facilities, mini bars, flat-screen TVs with multiple channels and a balcony or patio.

The two larger Junior Suites offer queen size beds, and a sofa bed in the spacious lounge area. The Kitani and Royal Suites are much larger than Junior Suites, and if you stay in one of these suites during your coastal travels in East Africa, you will be provided with a personal butler. All rooms contain safes and bathrooms provide complimentary wash toiletries.

The lodge’s services include 24-hour reception, foreign exchange and laundry services. Outdoor Severin activities you can enjoy on your beach retreat in Mombasa include volleyball, water gymnastics, diving at the offshore coral reef at Mombasa Marine Park. You may cool off after a day’s adventures in one of the two swimming pools, and guests are provided with fresh towels for use with the sun chairs. If you need to keep in touch with business associates during your Kenyan ocean holiday, the Severin’s ‘Bush Drum’ internet cafe provides free access to computers and internet, and there is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, though connection quality varies and adequate only for basic communication.

The lodge’s KENBALI Wellness and Fitness Spa contains two private massage rooms (offering single and double treatments), and there is gym equipment including a weight bench, stepper, treadmill and more. Dining at Severin Sea Lodge includes a number of casual options. The Kisima Restaurant offers ocean views and serves buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. Here you may choose between set a la carte menus and themed buffet nights when ordering dinner. If you desire Italian comforts, the Safari Bistro is open for late breakfast, lunch and dinner and serves pizza and pasta along with pastries and ice cream.

The Safari Bar next door has a 360 degree bar counter and serves cocktails as well as coffee, tea and cappuccino. If you feel like sampling fresh local seafood during your seaside trip at the Indian Ocean, the Imani Dhow is an in-house sea-food restaurant located in the rustic interior of a stranded Swahili dhow. Because Bamburi Beach is public, you will likely be approached by “beach boys” hoping to sell you crafts or unlicensed and non-insured tour packages during your stay. A polite ‘no’ deters most tradesmen. Even though the beach lacks privacy, the allure of touring mystical Mombasa Island promises a distinctive coastal experience.
